Leadership and operations

  • Serve as the chief leader for all aspects of the operation: guest and owner experience, team engagement, financial performance, food and beverage, and the condition of the property.
  • Lead the front desk, concierge and reservations team and the housekeeping and maintenance team directly; support building and leading the Mono Loco Beach Club team as it opens.
  • Act as the owner’s operating partner: report weekly on performance, surface problems early with a recommended fix, and translate the owner’s vision into daily execution.

Build the operating system of a new hotel

  • Write, implement and maintain standard operating procedures for every department: arrival and departure, housekeeping turnover, preventive maintenance, inventory, cash handling, incident response and owner reporting.
  • Define the Mono Luxe guest-experience standard and train every team member to it, with hands-on coaching, service audits and structured onboarding.
  • Master the tools the operation runs on (Cloudbeds, guest messaging, task tracking) and make sure the team uses them consistently.

Support the launch of Mono Loco Beach Club

  • Support the pre-opening path: staffing, menus and pricing with the culinary lead, licensing and permits, service standards, opening timeline and launch events.
  • Own day-to-day club operations after opening: food and beverage quality and cost control, pool and beach service, member and guest access, events, safety and compliance.
  • Integrate the club into the villa stay so arrival, dining, beach service and billing feel like one property.

Concierge and local partnerships

  • Build and manage a curated network of surf schools, boat charters, fishing, national park and wildlife tours, wellness, private chefs and transportation.
  • Negotiate partner terms, set quality and safety requirements, and review partners against guest feedback.
  • Cultivate relationships with the Tamarindo business community, local officials and tourism bodies.

Guests and owners

  • Create personalized guest experiences and drive compliance with our service standards across the team.
  • Respond personally to escalated guest and owner concerns and use review and survey feedback to improve the operation every month.
  • Support the owner rental program with accurate reporting, well-maintained residences and clear communication.

Financial performance

  • Build, manage and defend the annual budget and forecast for the villas and the beach club, and explain variances to ownership.
  • Drive room revenue across direct, OTA and group channels with ownership and marketing, and grow food and beverage revenue as the club opens.
  • Apply disciplined cost control, labor productivity, forecasting accuracy and cash flow management.

People and compliance

  • Recruit, develop and retain a bilingual team; set schedules, run performance reviews and handle disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Ensure full compliance with Costa Rican labor law, including CCSS, INS, Ministerio de Trabajo requirements, data protection (Ley 8968) and all municipal, health and tourism permits.

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years as General Manager, Hotel Manager or Director of Operations in a 4–5 star, boutique or luxury property.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Pre-opening experience: has opened a hotel, resort, restaurant, club or new operation and built its procedures and team from the ground up.
  • Working knowledge of Costa Rican labor law and employer obligations (CCSS, INS, aguinaldo, vacation and severance) and hotel and F&B permits.
  • Legal right to work in Costa Rica (residency or valid work permit).
  • Proven ability to write SOPs, design training and hold a team to a defined service standard.
  • Budgeting and forecasting skills; comfortable preparing and analyzing P&L and operating data.
  • Hands-on, self-motivated and results-driven; organized and calm under pressure.
  • Experience with a cloud PMS (Cloudbeds preferred) and OTA channels.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business or a related field.
  • Food and beverage leadership, including menu costing, cost of goods and labor control.
  • Experience managing branded residences, a condo-hotel or an owner rental program.
  • Experience opening or operating a beach club or pool club.
  • Experience with Forbes, Michelin Key or similar luxury service standards.
  • Existing relationships with tour operators and suppliers in Guanacaste.

Language, location and physical requirements

  • English: native or near-native, for guest and owner communications and escalations with a mostly North American clientele.
  • Spanish: fluent, including leading team meetings, negotiating with vendors and handling labor and government matters.
  • Based on property in Tamarindo, on site most days, including weekends and holidays as the operation requires. Must live in the Tamarindo area; relocation and housing support available.
  • Work is indoors and outdoors in a tropical climate across four levels, with regular use of stairs and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.

In your application, tell us about one operation you opened or rebuilt, and what you would do in your first 90 days here.
